  • The first electronic payment centre is launched on the domestic market

    The first electronic payment centre is launched on the domestic market

    In 1991, the former Wafabank created the Kingdom's first electronic banking centre under the name ‘Wafa Monétique’, now Wafacash. At the time, its main mission was to manage the issue and acceptance of bank cards issued by Visa and Mastercard.

     

    In 1997, Wafacash launched, for the first time in Morocco, the first Visa Electron card and popularized the use of the bank card.

    In 1995, Wafacash became the first company in Morocco to offer a fast money transfer solution through its partnership with Western Union, the world leader in instant international transfers. Anyone, whether or not they have a bank account, can receive funds from more than 200 countries within a few minutes. The signing of this partnership is the gateway to a journey through history, rich in innovative and valueadded money transfer solutions, and in challenges and success. As its first Maghreb partner, Wafacash is also one of the first African countries to sign with Western Union.

    In 2001, Wafacash launched two new services to meet the needs of its customers:
    Cash Express, a fast domestic money transfer service that allows you to send and receive funds instantly and efficiently across the country.In-branch Foreign Exchange Service for exchanging funds into Dirhams and vice versa.

    In 2003 Wafa Monétique changed its name to Wafacash.

    In 2006 Wafacash revamped its logo and visual identity as part of the Attijariwafa Banking Group; a new signature that consolidates the Wafacash brand.

    In 2006, Wafacash and Wafasalaf formed a partnership for the marketing and distribution of the ‘Salafcash’ product, a credit facility granted by Wafasalaf, initiated and distributed in cash through the Wafacash network.

    In 2008, Wafacash diversified and made available to its customers the ‘Floussy’ prepaid card, a real electronic wallet, not backed by a bank account, which offers a wide range of cards to match customer needs and expectations.

    In 2009, the Attijariwafabank Group marketed, a first in Morocco, ‘Hissab Bikhir’ through the Wafacash network, a unique banking service in Morocco for customers without access to formal banking services, who now benefit from multiple banking advantages and solutions.

    In 2010, Wafacash boosted its position in the international money transfer segment by offering its customers a new, secure, fast and accessible way for international money transfer transactions. Its partnership with the world leader Moneygram allows Wafacash to now offer its customers a new secure, fast and accessible way to receive international money transfers.

    In January 2011, Wafacash celebrated its 20th anniversary, celebrating 20 years of success in serving its customers and 20 years of sharing with its employees.

    To mark the event, Wafacash launched a communication campaign focused on its core values, which make the brand a success story for the Attijariwafa Banking Group: Proximity, Availability, Speed, Security and Convenience.

    Wafacash also launched the ‘Allo Cash’ product, a fully secure money transfer service for distributing money transfers issued from partner mobile platforms.

    RIA: Large international money transfer operator.
    Santander Envios, a subsidiary of the largest Spanish bank, Banco Santander.

    With e-commerce sites and telephone operators for cash payment via the PayCash service.

    ‘Superdeal’: A company specialising in promoting events and services on the Internet, at promotional rates, called ‘Deal’.
    ‘Wafasalaf’: An application through which Wafasalaf customers pay their bills or prepay their loans by cash at the Wafacash branch of their choice. A convenient service for customers by offering them immediate and secure cash payment.
    ‘Inwi’: The Inwi phone recharging service, a simple and reliable system, is now available in Wafacash branches.

    A new partner and a new alliance with ‘binga.ma’

    In 2013, an alliance with ‘binga.ma’ the first Internet Cash Payment System in Morocco. It is a simple and secure process for all types of payments: purchases of goods and services, payment of invoices and fees, etc...

    This is an alternative bill payment and service purchase solution for people who do not want to, or cannot, use their bank cards because of concerns about electronic payment, card cap limits or simply a preference for cash payment.

    2013 was also marked by the launch of ‘Sigue’, a new international cash-to-cash money transfer partner.

    Wafacash continues to develop its partnerships by now offering its PayCash service to the automotive credit company, RCI Finance Maroc. RCI customers will have the opportunity to settle their outstanding payments in cash across the entire Wafacash network.

    In October 2014, the ticket payment service sold through the Royal Air Maroc website was launched at the Wafacash network.

    New partnership with the Al Amana microcredit association

    The partnership with Al Amana, the leading micro-credit association in Morocco, now serves the largest number of beneficiaries possible. Al Amana is a significant player in the economic and social development of Morocco through its efforts to boost financial inclusion.

    The main objective of this launch is to approach a target common to both Al Amana Wafacash target, the economically weak and disadvantaged population who cannot access the traditional banking system, by introducing them to the Hissab Bikhir banking alternative and offering them small loans to develop their income-generating activity.

    As part of the Pay Cash/Binga product, Wafacash, always looking to innovate, signed a new partnership agreement with Royal Air Maroc for the payment of airline tickets sold via its website www.royalairmaroc.com.

    In 2015, and as part of the Allo Cash product, Wafacash launched a new partnership with AZIMO, one of the leaders in international online and mobile money transfers.

    Azimo is aimed at Moroccans Residing Abroad (MRE) who send transfers to Morocco and more particularly customers using mobile and web platforms.

    Wafacash is also launching cash payment for the payment of services offered by ‘le matin’ via their website www.lematin.ma with its PayCash product.

    Wafacash signs a new partnership agreement with the Directorate General of Taxes for the cash payment of the Annual Special Tax on Motor Vehicles sticker (TSAVA = Taxe spéciale annuelle sur les véhicules automobiles). Payments may be made at any Wafacash branch or by bankcard at the website www.payvignette.ma.

    As part of diversifying the PayCash product with its partner Binga, Wafacash is launching with Meditel the cash payment of E-shop and E-bill orders placed on the website www.meditel.ma.

    A new partnership was also signed with the TGR (General Treasury of the Kingdom) for the cash payments of: Transactional and fixed price fines, Housing Tax, Municipal Services Tax and the Professional Tax.

    • VAT: TAX ON VALUE ADDED
  • Launching ‘Jibi’, the first mobile payment account

    Launching ‘Jibi’, the first mobile payment account

    Jibi was designed to offer a wide range of services, including fully secure mobile payment, such as transferring money to a third party or paying for groceries at a retail outlet. For this last professional category, Wafacash also designed Jibi pro, a professional version of payment accounts.

  • ‘Floussy’: rechargeable prepaid cards.
  • ‘Hissab Bikhir’ is the first financial bank account presenting a new concept aimed at broadening access to the Moroccan banking system. This service is offered in partnership with the Attijariwafa Banking Group.
  • PayCash offers cash payments.

This range of services is available through a network of more than 1,800 branches operating in the cash business and offering flexible working hours. Some of these products and services are also offered through the Attijariwafa Bank banking network in Morocco.
